Opening a coffee shop requires intention and the ability to make thoughtful decisions as the business takes shape.
For the team behind Nudibranch Coffee, building their space was about creating something that felt rooted in culture and designed to bring people together.
Based in Seattle, Nudibranch Coffee offers something few customers in the city have experienced before. Built around Thai-grown beans and globally inspired flavours, the café introduces a different perspective on what a coffee shop can be.
At its core, the concept is simple: create a space where people can explore something new and feel a sense of familiarity at the same time.
Their balance of originality and comfort shows up in everything, from the drinks to the way the space is designed and operated.
Watch their story to see how the team brought Nudibranch Coffee to life:
For founder Emily Sirisup, Nudibranch Coffee began with a personal connection to Thai culture and a desire to share that experience with her community.
Having spent years working in coffee, opening a café of her own had always been a long-term goal. What made this idea different was the focus on bringing something new to the market while staying true to her background.
Rather than following a familiar path, the team leaned into a concept that felt meaningful. They sourced beans directly from Thailand and built a menu that reflects those origins.
From the start, every decision was tied back to that original vision.
Like many hospitality operators, the Nudibranch team faced the challenge of turning an idea into a functioning business.
Opening a café comes with a long list of decisions. Equipment is one of the biggest. It shapes how the space operates and how the menu comes to life, but it also represents a significant cost early on.
“One of the biggest challenges was realizing that we needed certain types of equipment to be able to run properly,” said Emily Sirisup, owner of Nudibranch Coffee. “But buying used equipment was risky and scary, and buying new equipment was absolutely above budget.”
For a business still defining its workflow and pace of service, committing to the wrong setup can be a risk.
The team needed a way to build their operation while leaving room to adjust as they learned what worked best.
To move forward, Nudibranch Coffee chose an approach that allowed them to stay flexible as the business developed.
Using SilverChef’s Rent-Try-Buy option, Emily was able to bring in the equipment she needed without committing all of her capital upfront. The café could then adapt over time and refine how the space operated day to day.
For Emily and her team, that flexibility allowed them to add equipment as new needs became clear, rather than trying to predict everything before opening.
“We chose SilverChef because it was a great financial option for us. I think things would have been a lot more difficult without SilverChef,” said Emily.
It also helped them manage cash flow during a stage when every decision mattered.
With the right equipment in place, the Nudibranch Coffee team was able to focus on refining their concept.
They invested time into developing their menu, strengthening their brand, and building a space that felt intentional. The café quickly became more than a place to grab coffee. It became a reflection of their culture and a place for connection.
Nudibranch Coffee continues to evolve as it finds its place in Seattle’s coffee scene.
What started as an idea rooted in culture has grown into a functioning business that brings something new to its community. The path has involved learning, adjusting, and making decisions step by step.
Their story is a reminder that building a hospitality business does not need to be perfect from the start. It needs to be intentional, yet flexible enough to grow over time, and SilverChef’s financing options can help make that possible as your business takes shape.
